Young Scot is fully registered under the Data Protection Act 1998 ("the Act") and ensures that it complies with all protection that the Act affords to you. Young Scot recognises that it must protect your personal privacy while allowing you to enjoy the services which are available for you to access on this website. This policy lets you know the uses which are made of the different types of information which you give to us when you access our website.

Subscription

In some areas of our website (for example when you are logging on) we ask you to provide information that will allow us to make your site visit better and so that you can get the most relevant information. This includes, for example, when you register as a user of the website giving us details of your locality and your sorts of hobbies and interests or where, for example, we ask for your views about certain things such as what is happening in the news, the latest music releases and so on. When we ask for this information from you we may ask you to give us your name, e-mail address and such other identification information that is needed by us to let us supply the services to you. The Act says that we can only use this sort of information about you where you have given us your explicit consent. You do not need to give us this sort of information if you don't want to. Where you do give us this sort of information we will only use it to make up surveys and your details will be de-personalised, so that nobody will be able to tell that the information came from you.

Any information of a personal nature that you provide to us will be kept confidential by us and will only be used for the purposes that have been specified above. In particular, we will not disclose or give your information to outside third parties (apart from organisations processing the information on our behalf) unless you have given us your explicit consent. Whenever we intend to give your personal details to such third parties we will ask you to consent first before the information is disclosed.

Cookies

Young Scot does not use cookies for collecting or storing personal information about you. You should be aware though that we do use a form of temporary cookie called a "session cookie" to allow our website to function effectively. Session cookies only store a "session ID" - a string of random characters - which allows the website to group together and distinguish page requests from your browser during each browsing session. They are not stored on your computer's harddisk and are held in memory, expiring automatically when you close down your browser. Please note though that if for any reason you do not want session cookies to be temporarily stored in the memory of your computer, you should not make any further use of our website.
