Every summer there are many music festivals happening across Scotland and the UK, from T in the Park to Glastonbury, Rockness to Belladrum. 

Here is our guide to what to bring, where to camp and what to expect. Follow this checklist to some happy summer festival memories.

What to bring 

• Ticket – You can’t really get in without it. Many festivals will give you a wristband when you arrive to get into the main venue, try not to lose this!

• Tent – Pretty much essential if you are camping! Put up your tent before you go and make sure there's no way the rain is getting in. A wet tent is definitely not fun. Make sure you have a warm sleeping bag and something to use as a pillow. And a few spare tent pegs will never go a miss!

• Cash/Cards – Don’t bring more than you need to, if you do there is a good chance you will loose it or spend it. Try to share out your cash between different pockets and bags. Many of the big festivals have cash points which means you won't have to carry lots of cash around with you. If you take cards, take a note of the numbers at home, incase you lose them.
• Food – Bring something that is filling, nutritious and easy to carry. Cheese and chocolate will melt, bananas will mush and meat will turn toxic in your hot tent. Try cereal bars, baked beans, apples, nuts and dried fruit. Food at stalls can also be really expensive and unhealthy, but convenient at the same time. 
• Water – Make sure you have plastic bottles you can fill up with water at the taps. Keep one for the tent and a smaller one for your day time adventures.
• Mobile – Handy for finding your friends in a crowd. Remember to charge it before you go and conserve the battery by turning it off at night. If you are just hanging about at the campsite together with your mates, why not save your battery until you need it. And don't use up all your battery using the internet on your phone on the way there!
• Warm clothing – You will need warm clothing for when you've stopped dancing and are making your way back to the tent. Under no circumstances let your warm jumper get wet! It may look nice outside but it can potentially get cold at night.
• Waterproof jacket - The weather in Scotland can be unpredictable at the best of times! It might look sunny at the moment, but rain is always round the corner. Getting your clothes wet will make for a miserable experience, so pack a waterpoof jacket to wear over your clothes just in case!

Things you might forget 

• Toilet Roll - Portaloos are not the loveliest and you will be sad if you forget it. Bring two.

• Torch – Will be a life saver when your trying to find your way back to your tent and the sea of thousands of other tents look exactly the same as yours.
• Bin bags – Bin bags are very versatile. At a festival they become something to sit on, a rain jacket when the weather turns nasty, and a way of getting your muddy clothes and shoes home without ruining the car. 
• Small medical kit - Bring plasters for blisters and paracetamols for hangovers, but if your have a serious injury or illness get yourself to the medical tent.
• Wet wipes - Keep you clean when your lazy and can't face the freezing showers. Antibacterial hand gel also wouldn't go a miss.Suntan lotion - It might be windy or rainy but spend three days outside and your bound to catch some sun rays.
• Sensible shoes – Not white ones, not your favourite ones, not ones you would hate to be covered in mud. Wellies or hiking boots do a grand job.
• Ear plugs - Lifesaver when the campers next to you will not shut up and you are trying to get some sleep. 

What not to bring 

• Valuables – If you don’t want to lose it, leave it at home. Things do go missing at festivals.
• The kitchen sink – Remember everything you bring you will have to carry from your car/the bus to the camp site. It can often be a long walk to your tent, even longer in the rain and mud! 

Alcohol and drugs 

• Pace yourself - Remember to eat before you drink and don't forget to drink water. Don't drink more than you normally would.

• Look after your yourself and your friends. If someone you know is not well make sure you take time out to help them. Take them out of the crowds, get some fresh air and if they are still unwell find a medical tent.
• Get the facts about drugs - Knowledge gives you the power to make decisions for yourself and help other people.
• Don't mix drink and drugs - The results are unpredictable and you never know what will happen.
• Watch out for 'legal' highs - although they are 'legal' doesn't mean they are safe.

What else do I need to know? 

• Don't pitch your tent next to a toilet, or a river. If there is a long queue at the toilet, people sometimes go nearby!
• Dream for sunshine, pack for rain.
• Have fun!
• Worried about losing your tent? Pick a spot near a landmark, or attach something to your tent which makes it recognisable (a flag or a balloon).
• Don't put a padlock on your tent. This screams 'I have something expensive in my tent'.
• Getting muddy can be part of the fun! Wear clothes you wouldn't mind getting dirty and remember that there is every chance you will get muddy!
